I would like to thank everyone, and especially Revd Lee for inviting me, and for the kind welcome and love that I received during my recent Internship at Hanshin Church.

I arrived on Saturday 14th July after having spent a month in Malaysia and was immediately welcomed into the life of the Church, on that first Sunday morning attending two main Church services and the English speaking service before enjoying a wonderful dinner that was specially arranged for me. 

Over the next seven weeks I visited Expo Yesou Korea 2012 and then the Revd Son Memorial Center and Church. 

It was on that trip that I began to appreciate just what a Church History scholar Revd Lee is, a mutual passion of ours. 

Also I will remember it because due to a communication failure I was unaware that it was actually an overnight stay so at 11.00pm we were searching for a chemist or an optician that sold either contact lenses or solutions. 

Incredibly a Christian optician opened up her shop and gave me the exact contact lenses I needed. Going away on the youth camp was a memorable experience.

I really enjoyed meeting the young people, swimming, organising races down the various slides, actually the only person who beat me was Pastor Ashley and sleeping with four other people on the floor in the same room!!! Mr Choi became a really good friend. Apart from various delicious meals and taking me to the Yanghwajin Foreign Missionary Cemetery, he also introduced me to the delights of Korean Public Baths. 

This was a real culture shock, I have never seen so many naked men in my life!!! 

Once I got used to them though it was great and I loved the really cold traditional Korean drink made out of rice we received as we left. 

Definitely an experience I would repeat. 

I had no idea that the Korean weather was so variable, actually quite like England.

During my stay, it was really hot, really wet, including our golf day with two typhoons. 

On our golf day I was seriously impressed not only by Elder Ham's? singing ability but also by his ability to get everyone on the coach to sing at least one song by themselves. 

For me it was one of the most nerve wracking things I have ever done!!! During my entire stay I was aware of the warmth and genuine love that everyone had for me although I realized that the language barrier made it really difficult at times to communicate with me. 

I had many special days but in particular I really appreciated all the ministry opportunities I was given, and for the immense privilege that Dr Daniel Chae and myself had of having an interview with Rev Cho Yonggi organised by Hanshin Church. 

It was a great honour for me to be officially commissioned as a Mission Partner of Hanshin Church and I go back to the UK as your representative, equipped and knowing that I am supported by you both in love and your prayers, to plant a new Church in Tiptree UK. 

In closing I would like to invite any one visiting the UK to get in touch, and come and visit us. 

We would be delighted to welcome you and especially to take you to Tiptree to share with you the vision and the wonderful things that the Lord is, and will do there! Love in Christ

저를 한신교회에 초대해 주시고 환대와 사랑 속에 인턴과정을 마칠 수 있도록 친절을 베풀어 주신 이윤재 목사님을 비롯한 모든 분들께 감사 드립니다. 

말레이시아에서 한 달을 보낸 후 7월 14일 토요일 한국에 도착해 

다음날 주일2부 3부 예배와 영어예배에서 여러분께 인사를 드렸고, 

저를 위해 특별히 마련해 주신 환영만찬을 즐기며 한신교회 공동체에 발을 들이게 되었습니다. 

그 후 7주 동안의 인턴과정은 2012여수엑스포와 손양원순교기념관/애양교회 방문 팀에 합류함으로 시작되었는데요, 교회사에 박식하신 이윤재 목사님으로부터 많은 것을 배우고 나누며 오갔던 길은 역사에 또한 관심이 많은 저에게 참 유익하고 즐거웠습니다. 

그 여행이 기억에 남는 또 한가지 이유는, 의사전달이 정확히 되지 않아 하룻밤을 자고 돌아오는 여정인지를 모른 채 아침에 따라 나갔다는 점이었지요.

그래서 1회용 렌즈나 렌즈세척용액을 구하기 위해 밤 11시에 여는 안과/안경점이 있는지 찾아 다니는 소동을 벌여야 했지만, 놀랍게도 안경집을 하는 기독교인 한 분을 만나게 되었고, 

일부러 그 밤에 가게 문을 열어 제게 필요한 렌즈를 선물로 주시더군요. 

중고등부 여름영어신앙캠프도 기억나네요. 

특히 수영장에서 물놀이를 하며 모두와 친해질 수 있어 좋았는데, 이쪽 저쪽에서 물 미끄럼틀 경주를 주선해 청소년들 사이에서 매번 일등을 차지하다가 그만 송미현 준목님한테 지고 만 것이 인상에 남습니다. 

바닥에서 주무신 네 명의 교사 분들과 한방을 썼던 경험도 저에게는 새로웠지요. 

최필선집사님과 좋은 친구가 된 것도 참 감사한 일입니다. 

맛있는 식사에 여러 번 초대해 주셨고 양화진외국인선교사묘원에도 동행해 주신데다가, 

공중목욕탕이라는 새로운 세상에 저를 입문시켜주셨거든요. 

그렇게 많은 벌거벗은 사람들을 보는 것은 생전 처음이라 문화충격을 제대로 받은 것이지요. 

그렇지만 일단 좀 익숙해 지고 나니 모든 것이 훌륭하다 싶었습니다. 

나오는 길에 받은 차가운 한국전통 쌀 음료(식혜)를 포함해서 말입니다. 

꼭 다시 가보고 싶네요. 

한국의 날씨가 영국 날씨처럼 변동이 심하리라고는 전혀 생각 못했었지만 

체류기간 동안 폭염과 장대비와 두 차례의 태풍을 경험했습니다. 

교회 골프동호회를 따라 필드에 갔던 날도 비가 많이 왔었는데, 

오가는 길 함윤석 장로님의 노래실력에도 놀랐지만, 

버스에 탄 모든 사람이 한 곡씩 부르도록 이끌어 내시는 장로님의 능력에도 감탄하지 않을 수 없었죠. 

제 차례가 되니 어찌나 떨렸었는지 모르겠습니다. 

소통을 매우 힘들게 하는 언어장벽이 존재했음에도 불구하고 한신교회에 있는 동안 모든 분들이 저를 얼마나 따뜻하게 아껴주고 계신지는 충분히 감지할 수 있었습니다. 

기억에 남는 날들이 참 많았지만 무엇보다도 제가 교회사역을 직접 하도록 마련해 주신 모든 기회에 대해 감사 드리고 싶고, 최종상박사님(암노스교회개척학교학장)과 제가 조용기목사님을 직접 만나 대담하는 특별한 자리를 주선해 주신 한신교회에 다시 한번 감사 드립니다. 

한신교회의 협력선교사로 파송 받은 것은 저에게 크나큰 영광이었고, 

이제 저는 한신교회를 대표해 그간 인턴과정을 통해 받은 훈련과 여러분의 사랑과 기도라는 지지에 힘입어 ‘팁트리’지역에 교회를 개척하고자 영국으로 돌아갑니다. 

끝으로 여러분 중 누구라도 영국에 오시게 되면 꼭 제게 연락 주시고 방문해 주셨으면 합니다.

 큰 기쁨으로 여러분을 환영할 것이고, 특히 ‘팁트리’를 보여드리면서 주님께서 그곳에서 행하고 계시는 놀라운 역사와 앞으로 행하실 멋진 비전을 함께 나누고 싶습니다.
